I am a 53 almost 54 yr old woman. I was disabled in a catastrophic car accident in 1994. I am walking, but am 8 inches shorter due to spinal compression. Making jewelry, sewing, painting shirts, designing scarves and various other artistic endeavors have been a God send. At the time of the accident in 1994, I was a class and a half away from finishing my Master's Degree in Elementary Ed/Reading Ed. I was already certified as a Language Arts/Reading specialist. No longer can be reliable being there due to high pain days. Before that I had worked in retail Mgt. both fashion and computers, was a competitive swimmer, coaching on the local, national and supervising coaches on the international level. I also worked awhile as an undercover narcotics agent as a Deputy Sheriff, though my training was through the D.E.A. I am a published (though very obscure!!LOL) poet. I am also the mother of the most wonderful, amazing, caring, responsible young man who is 23; managed to get all the way up and through 2 1/2 years of college before discovering he has Asperger's Syndrome (very high functioning) and had, until diagnosed, no intervention and remediation; nor accomodations for his disability (though if he saw me write disability he'd have my hide!)
I come from a wonderful blended family where I'm one of 7 children. Each and every one of my siblings is an absolute delight. We're truly blessed. It is said that the best gift a father can give his children is to love their mother....I have the best father in the world for that and other reasons. A retired military gentleman, he's still found the ability to show the gentleness those of us who didn't grow up military need.
My older sister writes a devotional blog, My Heart Sings which can be found at www.SusanNDouglas.com If you need a lift, that is the place to find it. The Holy Spirit speaks to her through song, so each devotional starts with a song (usually contemporary Christian, with some old-time classic hymns) geared toward the topic of the day. Give her a look if you get chance.
